子供の大望を聞いて笑ってはいけない。子供にとって、笑いはからかいを意味することが多く、からかいほど心を苦しめるものはない。子供が身のほど知らずの 大望について語る時に親のなすべきことは、その大望についてあらゆる観点から、よく話し合ってやることだ。そしてできることなら、どうすればその目標に成 功する望みをもって近づけるか、その方法を助言してやる。それからさあ、やりなさいと前進を勧める。ありとあらゆる激励を与えてやる。何よりも、子供が自 力でできる事には手を貸さないことだ。自分で自分の成功を育てる特権と感激を取り去ってはいけない。
